A day in the life of a plant-powered baby

I’m a firm believer in the theory that it is my job to offer them good food and theirs to decide how much and when to eat.  Most of the time she eats what we’re eating or a variation of so here’s an example of what was offered today to our ten month old…

Breakfast: Porridge with ground sunflower seeds, cinnamon, and almond milk
Mid-morning: Apple, cardamom, and hemp seed spelt muffins with slivers of peeled apple
She ended up having three-quarters of the muffin but probably crumbled up
a quarter of it just for fun.

Late lunch: Brown rice with mashed roast sweet potato
We had to compromise at lunch – she was keen on taking control of the spoon but I didn’t have time for the mess – the end result was sweet potato on a rice cracker instead.
It was a hit!

Late lunch: Organic brown rice cracker with roast sweet potato
Dinner: Dr McDougall’s Lentil Potato Burgers – set aside some of the mix before adding salt and baking
Turns out dinner was also more appealing when spread on a cracker
and followed by some small bits of diced strawberry.
Dinner: Lentil Potato Burger mix spread on a multigrain Ryvita
I don’t love the cracker element today but that’s just the way it was. She also ate part of a banana and some grapes cut in half. I’m always reassured by the fact that a child’s nutritional intake is looked at over a week rather than a day! Mine are also keen to have breastmilk as their main source of nutrition until twelve months.
Which reminds me, today’s morsels were complemented with liberal helpings of breastmilk.  Around six feeds today from wake up at 6.30am to bed time at 7.30pm.
